RADIO ETHOPIA

True world music comes into reality when the peoples of the world come together to make music. That´s the concept of Radio Ethiopia, which calls their sound the beat of the city“.
Three Germans, one Zambian and one Turkish musician mix the different elements of the music they grew up with. A reggae song suddenly takes on an oriental component, an American blues takes you out of the blue back to Ethiopia and a Turkish love song turns into a Caribbean dance melody. Their current CD was recorded in Addis Ababa, Bagamoyo and Germany, under unusual circumstances. The members of Radio Ethiopia want to entertain, but also want to bring political statements to the stage.
As they state in one of their songs: If the racists want to make us dance, let them dare us. We will play our music to it“. This approach is not new to some of the band members. Pit Budde the leader of the band was a member of the German cult band Cochise“. Benno Gromzig used to play bass with the leading German singer/songwriter Stoppok and Uwe Kellerhoff drummed for Geyer Sturzflug“.
All the bands had something to say about the politics in Germany.
Daniel Ayalew of the Ethiopian branch of Deutsche Welle, the German international radio station, summed it up: Beautiful melodies, thoughtful lyrics and a very professional standard“.
