USCHI LAAR TRIO

Munich born Uschi Laar is well known as a solo harpist and has also shared the stage and the studio with celebrities like the Ensemble Oriental and Rüdiger Oppermann (who appeared on last year´s PROFOLK sampler CD). Laar´s works include elements from the Orient and Asia, rhythms from South America and Africa, and influences from jazz and contemporary music.
However she was first introduced to this instrument by the traditional folk music of her Bavarian home. She studied at the music conservatory in Nürnberg where she familiarized herself with the classical repertoire of the harp. She has published several recordings and three instructional books. She is the musical director of the annual international harp festival in southern Germany.

On this most recent effort, Laar collaborates with two unique musicians. Willi Lichtenberg is a classically trained bass player. He studied with Miroslav Vitous and with Rufus Reid in New York. His musical range stretches from classical to jazz to world music.
Ramesh Shotham comes from Madras, India. He combines Indian traditions with jazz. His broad array of percussive sounds include such exotic instruments as the ghatam (a clay vase) and numerous pots filled with water.
He has made himself a name in Europe touring with the Kanataka College of Music and has worked with Charlie Mariano, Jasper van´t Hof and Rabih Abou Khalil.
