SANTINO DE BARTOLO

It´s a story right out of a fairytale. In 1987 Santino de Bartolo came from Calabria, Italy to Germany to visit his brother. He fell in love and stayed. He opened a restaurant, but his name soon became known not only for his excellent food: Bartolo turned out to be a talented singer and guitar player as well. In his Italian home he had listened to the folk heroes of the Sixties such as Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Donovan. The latter played an important role in his career as a songwriter and performer.
In 1994 he was asked to share the bill with the English bard in his new hometown. Donovan was as impressed by Bartolo´s songs as Allan Taylor, the English singer/songwriter was. A year later Bartolo went into the studio to record his first album Europa“ - with a little help from his some well known musicians from the English folk scene like Taylor, Martin Allcock and Phil Beer.
The next year, in 1996, Bartolo recorded his second album Navigando“ in England´s famous Woodworm Studio. Again he was accompanied by members of Jethro Tull and Fairport Convention (Simon Nickel, Dave Pegg and Andrew Giddings).
Santino de Bartolo is a poet. His lyrics are full of concern for the common people. His songs tell, above all, stories about life in Southern Italy.
He refers to his works as songs of love and anger“.
